Independence and community. Thomas Nedergaard at Thresholds conference

Danish Cultural Institute invites you to join us for what promises to be two very interesting days at Targowa Creativity Center.

To commemorate the 100 years of Polish independence, EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information technology in Warszawa is hosting a series of workshops and a two-day conference to explore modern independence from different theoretical angles.

The Conference ‘Thresholds’ is the culmination of four days’ workshops devoted to the concept of freedom, independence, work and migration. The two-day conference (October 22-23) will feature speakers from Poland, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, UK and USA, and will offer perspectives from the areas as arts, journalism, social design as well as religion and philosophy,

Danish Cultural Institute has invited Thomas Nedergaard, who will give a lecture “Is it at all an option for the independent authentic I in 2018, to participate in community, traditions and church?”

Thomas Nedergaard (b. 1975) is the priest and leader of the youth church uKirke in Copenhagen.

uKirke is something else than regular church events. It is a special place aimed at young people from different cultures of the Copenhagen’s Vesterbro district, engaging them with the church in new ways. It is a positive meeting of young people and room for everyone. A place where one can debate the big questions of life or just hang on a couch and enjoy the mood. Where one can calm down or cooperate with others.

The church was established in 2012 and arranges such activities, as f.eks. a food club for young immigrants, food and music arrangements  for secondary school pupils, meetings on social and green sustainability, exchange markets and sleeping concerts with 12 hours of music without words.

Danish Cultural Institute is a partner of the project.

Lectures are in English with simultaneous translation into Polish.
