PHOTO EXHIBITION 'OTHELLO' BY NICOLAS GROSPIERRE
A photo exhibition prepared by the Mazovian Centre of Culture and Art in cooperation with The Danish Cultural Institute, being the artistic documentation of the performance Othello made by a young Polish-French artist Nicolas Grospierre.
The performance came into being in Denmark with the participation of the dancers from the Polish Dance Theatre. It was created by a Swede, Marie Brolin-Tani together with her husband Hans-Olof Tani, who conducts her MBT Danseteater in Aarhus. The idea of creating Othello was born during the artist's stay in Southern Africa, but Marie Brolin-Tani decided to invite The Polish Dance Theatre into cooperation after a meeting with it's director Ewa Wycichowska, arranged by the Polish Embassy and The Danish Cultural Institute. The performance was a great success in Denmark in the season 2000/2001, and was nominated for Denmark's prestigious Reumert's Prize. In order to maintain cooperation with the Polish dancers and to become a part of the exchange and cooperation program Neighbours on the Baltic Sea, initiated by the Polish Embassy in Denmark and The Danish Cultural Institute in Poland, Marie Brolin-Tani gave the performance to the Polish Dance Theatre for the season 2001/2002.
"The performance proved not only the universal dimension of Shakespeare's tragedy and not only the fantastic possibilities of breaking the Earth's borders by a dance theatre, but also the breaking of other borders by real art - art that brings together and shows the way".
