CHAMBER MUSIC PERFORMED BY WLADYSLAW MARCHWINSKI (VIOLIN) AND YUKA ICHIKAWA (PIANO)

The concert On April 23, on exactly the 35th anniversary of his departure to Denmark, Wladyslaw Marchwinski (violinist) performed a duet with Yuka Ichikawa (pianist) in the Palac Poznanski, as part of the Rendez-vous with Denmark program in Lodz.

Marchwinski began to learn to play the violin when he was 7, going on later to attend musical secondary school. He completed his musical studies (with honors) in 1968 at the Music Academy in Lodz, under the direction of Professor Franciszek Jamry. He is the recipient of the first-place award in Poland's nation-wide inter-collegiate competition in classical music in the category of two-person groups. He shared that prize with Karol Nicze.

Thanks to a Danish scholarship, Marchwinski pursued his studies in Vienna under the renowned pedagogue Ernst Morawiec. From 1970 to 1984 he was a member of the Symphony Orchestra of Danish Radio, later he was a concert master in the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Beyond his work in the Orchestra, Wladyslaw Marchwinski is a soloist and also performs chamber music, for instance, as a member (for now more than 25 years) of the Copenhagen Chamber Ensemble, which has also given concerts in Poland. Through these pursuits Marchwinski may be said to be a steady promoter of Polish music in Denmark, for Marchwinski includes both classical and modern Polish music in the programs of the concerts and performances of the groups he belongs to.

During his stay in Lodz Marchwinski conducted a master's course for students of his Alma Mater. On the next day he performed a concert at the State Music School in Pabianice. In the past, as well, Marchwinski performed in Poznan within the Denmark in the Castle 2003 program. In that instance his listeners were treated to classical Danish music.

Yuka Ichikawa was born in 1967 in Osaka. She began learning to play the piano at 4 years old. Following her graduation from Tokyo's Musashino Academia Musicale (under professor Noviko Imaizumi), in 1989 Ichikawa traveled to Poland, where she continued her piano studies under professor Teresa Manasterska at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. During that time she also studied under professor Jozef Stompel in Katowice and participated in a master's course in Poland's Duszniki Zdroj under Ryszard Bakst.

In 1994 she won a scholarship to Denmark and commenced further studies at the Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, where she currently works as an accompanist. Yuka Ichikawa has participated in a range of international masters' courses under such pedagogues as Paul Badura-Skoda, Hans Leygraf, and Emanual Krasovsky. Yuka regularly performs concerts, especially chamber music. She has performed at international festivals in Sweden, Finland, Austria, and France.
