INAUGURATION OF THE ACTIVITY OF THE DANISH CULTURAL INSTITUTE
At the end of 1999, the decision was taken to move the seat of the Danish Cultural Institute in Poland from Tri-Cities, where the Institute had been established in 1994. The new offices were inaugurated on December 9, 1999 in the National Library in Warsaw and on February 4, 2000 in the Cultural Centre ZAMEK in Poznan.
The inauguration was completed by a promotion of a newly published volume of Gruks, ie. aphorisms, epigrams and limerics by Piet Hein, a very famous author in Denmark and abroad.
The Warsaw office of the Institute is quite small and consists only of two rooms with the total area of 36 sqm. It is located, however, in the very prestigious building of the National Library. The offices are big enough to room the Institute's library and to organize Danish language courses in groups consisting of 8 persons.
The inauguration of the Poznan office was accompanied by the big project Denmark in the Castle (Dania na ZAMKU) which consisted of various presentations within painting, sculpture, photography, music, theatre, film and lectures. The exhibitions imported for the project from Denmark were shown further in other cities, thus leading to closer cooperation with many institutions in Poland. The Cultural Centre ZAMEK grandly welcomed The Institute in its beautiful interiors and the cooperation of the two institutions is developing splendidly. One example of this cooperation is the yearly festival of Danish culture. The inauguration on February 4, 2000 gathered many personalities of cultural and political life in Poznan. The program of the project Denmark in the Castle: Glance - an exhibition of paintings and sculptures, Moment - an exhibition of photography by Tove Kurtzweil, the exhibition 100 posters by Per Arnoldi, the exhibition Karen Blixen - life and work, a guitar concert by Tomas Krakowski, presentation of Danish films: From Carl Th.
