In 2005 The Danish Cultural Institute arranged a series of events dedicated to H.C. Andersen, beginning with the inauguration of the H.C. Andersen Year in Poland at the National Library in Warsaw on 31. March 2005. The inauguration's main event was the opening of the exhibition H.C. Andersen in Poland (see: Events in Poland, Warsaw) on the reception of the author's works in Poland.

In the course of the year a number of Polish cultural institutions and schools carried out projects connected with the jubilee - some arranged the events their own, some in co-operation with the Danish Cultural Institute and the Royal Danish Embassy. Information about all the festivities as well as stage performances based on Andersen’s fairy tales are available on this web-site.

The Danish Cultural Institute has translated a package of educational materials  prepared by the Danish Pedagogical University into Polish. The original version of the materials was prepared in co-operation with the HCA2005 Foundation and includes texts to be freely applied by teachers – also available through this site.

The numerous projects organized all over the country were, in some cases, accompanied by the exhibition Hans Christian Andersen 2005, presenting the writer ’s life and works. The exhibition was prepared by the Odense City Museums with the participation of the Danish Cultural Institute and supported by the HCA2005 Foundation.

The Danish Cultural Institute also took part in the promotion of the new edition of H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales translated for the first time in Poland directly from the Danish language. In March a volume of 29 fairy-tales was published by Media Rodzina Publishers, who in April 2006 will issue a complete three-volume-edition of newly-translated fairy tales.
