About us
The Danish Cultural Institute is an independent non-profit institution, established in 1940, with its head office in Copenhagen. The Institute has representative offices in Poland, Great Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. Mr. Finn Andersen is the Secretary General.
The mission of the Danish Cultural Institute is to enrich Danish cultural life through cultural exchange and dialogue with other countries. The word "cul" functions here in a very wide sense: It involves art and all forms of cultural life, but also societal concerns. Thus, the activity of the Danish Cultural Institute is also focused on education, local policy, social outreach, health care, etc.
The Danish Cultural Institute facilitates contacts between Denmark and other countries. It initiates and assists in:
- Exhibitions, concerts and theatre performances
- Presentations of film and literature
- Festivals and other cultural events
- Library and publishing services
The Danish Cultural Institute arranges study tours for politicians, officials, journalists and professional groups, as well as individual tours within the job-swop program. In addition, the Institute arranges seminars and conferences on pressing subjects.
At the end of 1999, the decision was taken to move the seat of the Danish Cultural Institute in Poland from the Tri-Cities, where the Institute had been established in 1994, to Warszawa and Poznan.
The Institute does not subsidize individual cultural projects. On the basis of partnership agreements, it focuses on pursuing its own cultural projects designed to further its mission.
The Insitute's Patron is HRH Princess Mary of Denmark (see above, photo by Steen Evald).
